Never Again

At the memorial site at the former Nazi concentration camp at Dachau, there is a monument with the words "Never Again" written simply in five languages. When you see it, you quickly and easily understand the meaning.

I would say the same about granting the honor of hosting an Olympic Games to a country with such an oppressive and shameful history on basic human rights like China.

I love the Olympics. Phelps, the amazing pixie gymnasts, softball, hurdles, modern pentathalon... all of it. But "Never Again" should we bestow this honor to a country like China based on mere promises.

Please read another excellent piece by Sally Jenkins. Some may say I'm over-reaching with the Nazi/Chinese comparison. Maybe. But I say: Tell that to a billion oppressed Chinese people.
