Watched the whole thing tonight, and in a way it was almost a non-event. My take: Pretty predictable. Obama presented a strong reminder of his reasoned, even-keeled personna, and McCain shined in discussing his extensive experience, especially in foreign policy. Really no surprises, other than the omissions - neither of them took advantage of the chance to discuss the current financial crisis and detail how they, as President, would address the issue. If either one of them had done that, no matter how crazy the ideas may have sounded, he would have made an impact and "won" the night. Other impressions: Barack often conceded agreement with McCain and even complimented him, and John seemed at times to be fairly condescending towards Barack. Both tactics reflected negatively, at least to me.
I'm sure each will make adjustments to their debate strategies for the next round, and hopefully it will be a little more interesting and revealing.
Up next: the VP debate. Prediction: If Palin doesn't stumble significantly more than once or twice, she'll get a favorable review, regardless of Biden's performance. Should be fascinating.
