OK, generally I dislike talking politics, but after a certain friend threatened to move overseas if another Republican presidential candidate was elected this fall, I feel compelled to chime in.
My main thought has always been this: If Democrats truly want their candidate to win in November, they need to nominate Barak to be their candidate. He is new, fresh, inspiring, and most importantly, electable.
Mrs. Clinton, on the other hand, is not. Remember all those red states that won Mr. Bush 43 the last two elections? Not a one of them is going to switch to blue if Hilary is the Democratic nominee. She is simply too polarizing. In fact, if Mr. McCain is the Republican nominee, with his moderate viewpoints and respect from both sides of the aisle, some of those borderline blues may turn to red.
But I will leave one caveat: If she does actually end up getting elected, it will be for one and only one reason - due to the public's distaste for the Iraq war - and her election would serve only as a referendum on this Republican administration's administration of it, not because she is truly viewed as the answer to the country's ills. Indeed, she has stated that if she is elected she would continue with the war.
But, it's all moot. Since the American public isn't smart enough to elect Ron Paul, they can't be expected to do anything right, anyway. It will be politics as usual regardless of who gets elected, just with fewer butcherings of the English language.
